Park St Community Fest
Now in its eighth year, the Next Level Park St. Music & Community Fest (NLPSMCF) continues to serve as a dynamic platform that merges the power of music with the urgency of healthcare equity. More than just a festival, NLPSMCF is a free, outdoor community health event designed to reduce health disparities, particularly among Black and Brown communities, and promote holistic wellness in an inclusive, celebratory atmosphere. At its core, the event provides accessible health resources to marginalized populations, with a focus on preventative care, health education, and wellness engagement. Signature components include:
- A 5K Walk/Run to promote physical and mental health awareness
- On-site health screenings for chronic illnesses disproportionately affecting BIPOC communities, such as diabetes and hypertension, in collaboration with the African American Health Network.
Through its wellness workshops, health-focused vendors, and resource distribution, NLSPSMCF plays a critical role in addressing health inequities and empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being.
By intentionally integrating culturally competent health services into a vibrant community celebration, the festival builds trust, increases engagement, and encourages lasting health behaviors. It also serves as a safe space for dialogue around the social determinants of health and the systemic barriers that affect marginalized populations.
Taking place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Labor Temple Grounds in Madison, WI, NLSPSMCF attracts attendees of all ages, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds. Since its debut in 2017, it has become one of Madison’s premier events for fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through the lens of community health.
Healthcare-driven objectives of the NLSPSMCF include
- Connecting BIPOC residents with health-focused resources and culturally aligned vendors.
- Creating a family-friendly environment centered on wellness and education.
- Encouraging cross-community engagement to support public health goals.
- Delivering content and activities that promote lifelong health literacy.
- Supporting youth wellness through safe, affirming spaces.
- Offering free preventative health screenings and promoting early detection.
